Are you looking to create a sustainable future for your school? At Climate Education, we’re excited to announce the launch of our brand-new interactive Sustainability Action Planning Tool! This tool gives schools a single location to pull together projects, which can be shared with governors, parents, and students to influence long-lasting, sustainable behaviour change.
Our Sustainability Action Planning Tool integrates smoothly with the latest DfE guidelines for schools where the strategy requires by 2025 all education settings have a nominated sustainability lead and climate action plan in place. This ensures that your sustainability efforts benefit the environment and align with recognised educational standards.
Your Sustainability Action Plan
We understand that each school is unique and needs a starting point, so our tool begins by gathering information about your building and students. Providing key details on school infrastructure and the percentage of green space will ensure that we tailor our support for members and can clearly show the impacts of all our schools efforts.
Your sustainability action plan aims to serve as a pathway, guiding schools toward their sustainability goals. This is focused around our 5 key themes: Our Natural Environment, Local Sustainable Food, Sustainable Travel & Health, Zero Waste & Sustainable Living and Zero Carbon & Climate Change.
Simply start off by selecting the theme, the action, who will be assigned the task, what you need to make the task happen and any additional notes. The plans progress tab allows you to track the tasks at hand from start to finish with an option for a completion date. If you want to work on multiple actions, you can press the ‘Add more actions’ sign to add in more tasks. These can be moved up and down through the arrows on the right and deleted if required to help you prioritise what actions you want to tackle first.
You can save and download the action plan as an Excel sheet (to help track year-on-year progress and analyse your data) or as a PDF to share with governors, parents, staff and students to demonstrate your sustainability commitments.
Achievements & Suggested Resources
Following the completion of an action, your achievement bar below will increase depending on the theme chosen. This is a great way for your school to monitor its progress and allows you to see what themes you may need to pay more attention to. Depending on your chosen actions, a list of similar resources and lesson plans will be suggested under the Suggested Resources panel to help you get started.
The Importance of Action Planning
Beyond demonstrating your commitment, having an action plan serves as a whole school approach to sustainability by combining efforts from teachers and students to facilities and board members. Using the action plan as a reference point is an ideal way to track and report progress and assign responsibilities.
