What is Climate Education?

Welcome to Climate Education, created by the environmental charity PECT, who have supported schools with climate action for over 25 years.

Our multi award-winning platform was developed with teachers and aligns with the Department for Education’s Sustainability & Climate Change Strategy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It helps schools show their commitment to sustainability and embed long-term positive change across the whole community.
Now is the perfect time to get involved. With new guidance from government and charities, Climate Education helps you stay ahead, future-proof your school, and take meaningful action on climate change.

How Does It Work?

Flexibility is built in. You choose what to do, when to do it, and who’s involved. There’s no portfolio or formal assessment, just practical tools that make sustainability part of everyday teaching.

Our interactive Climate Action Plan tool supports the Department for Education’s four pillars:
  • Decarbonisation
  • Adaptation and Resilience
  • Biodiversity
  • Climate Education and Green Careers

It gives you a single point of reference for a whole-school approach, helping you reduce costs, embed sustainability across the curriculum, and see the bigger picture.

Climate Education works across 5 different areas of climate action:

Everything is designed to work together, so you can focus on one area or combine several.

Your Climate Education journey also supports core educational priorities like SMSC, British Values, Wellbeing, Character Education, and the SDGs. We want climate action to feel like part of what you already do, not an extra task.

Action Planning and Targets

The DfE requires all schools to have a Climate Action Plan by the end of 2025. Our dashboard makes this easy with an interactive tool to set targets, track progress, and link actions to carbon savings.

You can share your plan with staff, leadership, and governors – keeping everyone aligned through one platform.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Each area of Climate Education is linked to the SDGs. These global goals, set for 2015-2030 and recently extended to 2050, aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and improve the wellbeing of all worldwide. This helps students see the impact they can make and empowers them to become active global citizens.
